Update: Centurylink Work Force Reduction
Oct 19, 2016
Subject: Update: Centurylink Work Force Reduction From: The Executive Board To all bargaining unit employees, We wanted to provide an update on the negotiations proceedings with the Enhanced Supplemental Bonus offering and to also let you know that we have heard your voice on your concerns about why the local is still in negotiations over that proposal. The main purpose of the local is to secure jobs for everyone in the bargaining unit, not negotiate to reduce the number of jobs. This is why we fight for the positions we have and negotiate new contracts that provide additional protections, benefits, and increase in positions for our members. We represent ALL employees and we strive to make the best decisions that benefit the whole of the bargaining unit, versus the individual. We are all in this together as our livelihoods are being viewed as a number on a balance sheet, versus a working family that is striving together to make our company profitable so as to provide for our personal families. We are fighting to ensure that ALL employees personally lives are not being taken advantage of or being abused, by the company, now or in the future due to the proposed force reduction. With a workforce that is shrinking, the amount of work will not be decreasing. Instead, it will increase substantially due to fewer employees thus placing that additional burden on to those who continue to work. We want those that choose to leave the company, to leave with the most lucrative offer as possible, and to have pride in knowing that they helped achieve the safety and security of the positions for those that remain or take their place in the future. That the offer afforded to them provides them monetary and lifestyle enhancements to aide them in their next adventure in life. Again, we are ALL in this together, whether you agree with it or not. The company has made it clear that they intend to reduce their head count to numbers they feel are profitable to the company, but not profitable to you and your family. But when the union represents the bargaining unit, we must take into account everyone affected by those decisions and actions to safeguard everyone?s position on those actions. We ask that if you have any questions, comments, complaints, concerns, or suggestions to please send them to CWA3176_Executive_Board@cwa3176.org.
