Subject: Rebuttal – Show of interest survey
From: The Executive Board
To all bargaining unit members,
The intent of the recent letter, sent by Scott Trezise/EVP Human Resources, addressing the Show of Interest Survey and Supplemental Enhanced Bonus (which is not the same offer made to non-bargaining) was to cause anguish and anger towards those respective units that are still in negotiations over the offer and to get those memberships to pressure their leaderships into accepting the “as is / original” offer.
Currently, the Communications Workers of America District 3 is in negotiation for at least 22 bargaining units to ensure that the offer is beneficial to those that may leave the company, as well as retaining protections for the remaining members. As such, the company deadline of October 13th is not a firm date as they must continue to negotiate with the union in good faith.
Out of the 32 bargaining units that have accepted the “as is / original offer”, those contracts do not have Earned Income Protection, Termination Allowance, and the Use of Contract Workforce languages that protects all its members from potential adverse actions.
Currently, District 3 is fighting for the following:
- That all current contractors with-in a bargaining unit are terminated prior to voluntary and involuntary separation packages are offered.
- That those employees who leave the company cannot be replaced at a later date with contractors.
- That the offer made to those that leave the company is lucrative and beneficial to those that choose it.
Unfortunately the company has chosen to use language to make it appear that the union is at fault for the delay in the offer, but the true delay is the fact the company has still not provided the requested information on contractors and other issues as requested by the union.
We ask that everyone continue to stay united during this time and to know that your Local union will always have your best interest at heart.
